Medical Advisor

Ryan Kauffman MD, FAAFP

Dr. Ryan Kauffman is the Medical Advisor of Rehab at Home.  Dr. Kauffman is the founder of Hickory Medical DPC.  Prior to this, Dr. Ryan Kauffman spent 9 years at Oakhill Medical Associates, including about 4 years as President and Medical Director. He has also served the community as Medical Director of Logan Acres Care Center and worked as a physician at Mary Rutan Hospital Emergency Room. He graduated with honors from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health in 2003 and completed his training at the Riverside Family Practice Residency Program in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Kauffman has board certification through the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Kauffman has been involved in Family Medicine organizations since he was a medical student and has served in numerous state and national roles. He is currently the President of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians and served on the Commission on Continuing Professional Development for the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has twice been elected as Delegate to the American Academy of Family Physicians Congress of Delegates, representing around 11,000 Family Medicine Residents and about 18,000 New Physician members. Dr. Kauffman has advocated for patients with state government including serving on the governor’s Ohio Cabinet Opiate Action Team and giving testimony before the House Health & Aging Committee Subcommittee on Opiate Addiction Treatment and Reform.

Ryan and his wife Valerie reside in Bellefontaine with their 3 sons. In his spare time, Ryan enjoys playing games and sports with his sons, doing home improvement projects, working with computers and playing music. Ryan has been part of the West Central Ohio Community Concert Band since 2007. The Kauffman family attends Oak Grove Mennonite Church in West Liberty.

Al Cummings

Al has an extensive background consisting of 38 years in the public relations/communications/marketing fields. He served as the Director of Public Affairs with the United States Air Force, Vice President of Communications at Kettering Medical Center, and was previously the President of the Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce. He became a broker at HRI Commercial Realty in 2012.

Director of Clinical Services

Marlene Wilson, RN, BSN

Marlene Wilson, RN, BSN, is the Director of Clinical Services for Rehab at Home.  Marlene has been working in the health care industry for over 20 years.  She obtained her BS in Human Health Sciences from the University of Richmond in Virginia and furthered her education by obtaining her Bachelors of Nursing Degree.  Marlene has served in leadership positions for some of the most prestigious companies in both home health care and pharmaceuticals.

Marlene has worked with seniors for most of her nursing career. Marlene has developed and implemented a successful geriatric mental health program for assisted living and long term care facilities.  She has developed and presented educational programs for facilities to enhance the care of this special population of geriatric patients.

Marlene also has extensive experience in sales, operations, maintaining survey readiness, and compliance. Home health care has been the main focus of Marlene’s nursing career.  Prior to becoming the Director of Clinical Services at Rehab at Home, Marlene worked on the Ostomy and Continence Nursing Specialty Team in the Home Health Care Division at the Cleveland Clinic.

David Kerns PT, DPT, CSCS

Dr. David Kerns started his career in physical therapy over 18 years ago while working in an outpatient orthopedic clinic here in Ohio.  David went on to receive his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Arizona School of Health Sciences and completed his doctorate research entitled “Low-Level Laser Therapy in Orthopedic Conditions of the Foot and Ankle”. 

David has furthered his education to be one of the only therapist in the country to hold combined certifications in Dry Needling (Taught by Dr. Ma the founder of Integrative Dry Needling) , Graston Technique® (completed at Ohio State University), advanced manual therapy training (Primal Reflex Relief, joint mobilizations, strain-counterstrain, myofasical release, trigger point therapy), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (through the NSCA), and has extensive training in Vestibular therapy / Balance disorders.

David’s clinical experiences include the opportunity to serve in leadership positions in some of the best home care agencies in the southwestern United States.  While in this position David was responsible for overall strategic development and clinical programming of therapy services.  This included the care of over 225,000 annual patient visits and over 500 clinicians.  During this time David was involved in the creation of Patient Empowerment programs that were able to decrease disease specific re-hospitalization rates from 40% to less than 3%.  These programs were recognized at the state and national level.  Using these innovative programs David helped develop successful strategic partnerships with hospitals, rehab facilities, orthopedic surgeons, and assisted living facilities.  These unique programs and strategic partnerships provided extraordinary growth and the agency was sold to a publicly traded company in 2015.

David is responsible for overall strategic development of Rehab at Home.  He is dedicated to creating patient empowerment and promoting independence in the lives of those we serve.  David lives outside of Beavercreek with his wife Heather who is a special education teacher in the local school district.
